THE BOX

Hello!

I would like to share a fun project that I have been working on for the last couple of weeks.  Every year TAG - The Artists Gallery, a small artist owned gallery in Frederick, MD invites artists to participate in their annual Box Show.  Each participating artist receives an 8"x8" wood box that they are free to do whatever they wish.  The event is a silent auction and the sale proceeds help support the gallery.  I wanted to participate last year but was a little late as usual and the boxes were all taken by the time i got there.  I have had this vision of what I wanted my box to look like in my head ever since last February and couldn't wait to get my hands on a box in 2016!  My idea is based on a simple little question---Hello? Is there anybody in there?

I could not have gotten very far with my idea without the help of my better half who drilled all the holes in the box.  I don't do power tools--I find them a bit intimidating. So, thanks to him that this idea was even possible.

I had so much fun with the entire process. ( I'm learning to do that more and more these days--enjoy the process.)  Every step, from sketching to cutting to placing the characters so they peeked through the holes just so, made me smile.  I am completely happy with how every little detail turned out.

I'm a bit anxious for the opening and closing receptions, but also super excited at the same time.  This is my very first gallery experience and I'm a little nervous to put my art out there.  I'm taking the leap!

Enjoy the photos and if you are in the area, come check out all the amazing boxes.  The show begins on March 4th with the opening reception the evening of the 5th.  The final bids are made at the closing reception on the evening of March 19th.

Hello? Is there anybody in there?
